Bharatanatyam
The classical solo tradition of Tamil Nadu — geometric precision, intricate rhythm and profound devotional expression.
Sheela Ashok Natyalaya
Bharatanatyam · Mohiniyattam · A lifetime in classical dance
The Artist
For over four decades, Sheela Ashok has carried the classical dance traditions of southern India from the practice hall to the stage.
Trained in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam, she brings discipline, devotion and the art of abhinaya — expressive storytelling — to every performance. She dances regularly for cultural and service societies, including KSS and regional sabhas, and in group presentations such as Ashtapadi recitals.
Now in her sixties, she continues to perform, to mentor younger dancers, and to celebrate the living heritage of Indian classical dance at festivals, competitions and community stages.
Her Art
Three classical traditions, each with its own grammar of rhythm, grace and devotion.

The classical solo tradition of Tamil Nadu — geometric precision, intricate rhythm and profound devotional expression.

The graceful lasya dance of Kerala — flowing, feminine movement set to soulful Sopana music.

Expressive devotional pieces — the verses of Jayadeva's Gita Govinda — often presented in ensemble.
Moments
A glimpse of the stage, the costume and the years of devotion.
